Such jackets have ample pocket space for carrying of personal Epirbs, dye markers, strobe lights, small marine radios etc. The CDMA phone system will also be utilised for routine scheduled call ins to authorities, such as the Kent Group Ranger, Victorian Coast Guard and Flinders Island and Bridport police stations.
The CDMA sytem covers most of the required areas in Victoria and Tasmania as well as Flinders Island. Although not as complete a coverage as that of the desired Iridium satellite phone system, the handsets are too expensive and sponsorship from Telstra for this was not granted.
Flinders Island folk have traditionally used UHF Citizens Band Radio for local communications and it is considered prudent to carry a small waterproof set in this region.
Vessel to vessel communications will be by VHF Radio. Icom have a small hand held set that is durable and waterproof.
The vessel itself is a Sea Doo by Bombardier as they have statistically proved their superior reliability time after time, especially in the long distance travel events such as the 4 Jet Trek events of approximately 1000km each. This reputation was further reinforced by the circumnavigation of Australia by the Oztrek2000 team, a distance of 16000km - more than twice the world long distance record in half the time!

New 4 stroke model (185 hp), These vessels have a much larger hull than previous craft and are also heavier and more stable 130" long 48" wide |
The long range fuel tanks designed for the Oztrek2000 do not fit the new hull design of the 4stroke .
A heavy duty plastic fuel tank of the type used for motor vehicle racing has been obtained that can be adapted to the vessel being used. This holds an additional 80 liters. A standard low volume fuel pump is being utilised to top up the main tank from the auxiliary whilst the vessel is underway.
The tank is externally mounted
